Project Overview
The MIT Media Lab expansion is a hallmark academic infrastructure project dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary innovation in digital media, design, and emerging technologies. Designed by Maki Associates with Leers Weinzapfel Associates, the facility integrates advanced laboratories, collaborative workspaces, and sustainable design features into one of the most intellectually dynamic campuses in the world. The project enhances MIT’s capability to lead global research initiatives by providing a highly flexible, high-tech, and human-centered environment.
Our Role
In the MIT Media Lab project, we served as the lead BIM Consultant, delivering end-to-end digital engineering support to ensure precise planning, coordination, and implementation. Our responsibilities included:
- Creating high-fidelity BIM models for architectural, structural, and MEP systems
- Executing detailed interdisciplinary coordination, focusing on steel fabrication, slab penetrations, and overhead systems
- Developing constructability analysis and visual planning tools to optimize building performance and construction efficiency
- Providing progress simulation models to visualize critical construction stages and enhance stakeholder communication
- Supporting sustainable and efficient execution through intelligent data modeling aligned with project timelines
By leveraging BIM methodologies across all project phases, we ensured coordination accuracy, minimized rework, and contributed to the successful realization of this iconic research facility.
